Imagine the sound of gentle waves, monkeys climbing overhead, birds chirping, delicious food, and excellent hospitality. That is exactly what you will get at Casa De Las Avez in Laguna de Apoyo, Nicaragua. It took me a while to find the right place to stay, finally deciding on Kate’s beautiful little B&B. I haven’t felt so good in a long time, this place just melted away any bit of stress and sickness (I had been fighting a cold) I had been experiencing. Literally, my one whole day there (I wish I could’ve stayed longer) consisted of the most delicious vegan breakfast I have ever had, swimming in the Laguna, laying in the hammock, enjoying a beautiful massage, and pretty much doing nothing else. Really, not much else is needed here.
Let’s start with the owner Kate, what and absolute delight to chat with and share! She’s a friendly, outgoing, and caring human, genuinely concerned with the well-being of others. You can see it in the way she interacts with her staff, the way she runs her kitchen, and the way she takes in the local dogs who have lost their families. She’s a gem of a human. The attention she has put into creating her own little paradise is evident in the rooms, the choice of landscaping, and those she has invited to help her at the Casa.
My room was quaint, painted a welcoming orange and purple, a beautiful rainwater shower tucked away in the corner. The bed was king-sized, and the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on while travelling, and that’s saying something! I have never slept so well on vacation! Cute little masks adorned the walls, with a bamboo towel rack and little bathroom stall. It was, seriously, the cutest little room! Awaking each morning to the howler monkeys and the roosters and birds was heavenly!
And that breakfast! That breakfast was seriously everything that is right with this world! Sure, I’m maybe exaggerating, but only a little bit. There were fried plantains, toast with hibiscus jam, fruit with granola, a smoothie, and a pot of green tea. Served with a view of the Laguna, there’s seriously nothing better!
Sunset swims in the mineral waters and an absolutely amazing massage were highlights of this place, for sure! Those waters seriously do have healing powers, and are as clear as a hot summer day!
I don’t really know what else I can say about this place other than – GO! Experience it for yourself and enjoy every moment! You won’t regret it! And make sure you stay at least a few days. Be careful though, you may never want to leave!
